A powerful and inspiring memoir about one woman's decision to donate a kidney to a stranger, and the unexpected miracle that followed.
The Decision
In 2016, I made the decision to donate a kidney to a stranger. I had always been interested in organ donation, but it was never something I thought I would actually do. However, after reading a story about a woman who had donated a kidney and saved a life, I was inspired to take action.
I contacted the National Kidney Foundation and began the process of becoming a living donor. I underwent a series of medical tests and interviews, and I was eventually approved for donation.
On the day of the surgery, I was both nervous and excited. I knew that I was ng something that could potentially save someone's life, and I was honored to be a part of it.
The Surgery
The surgery was a success, and I was released from the hospital after a few days. I experienced some pain and discomfort in the weeks following the surgery, but I recovered quickly.
I am so grateful to the doctors and nurses who took care of me during my surgery and recovery. I am also grateful to the anonymous recipient of my kidney. I hope that my donation has given them a second chance at life.
The Unexpected Miracle
A few months after the surgery, I received a letter from the recipient of my kidney. They told me that my donation had given them a new lease on life. They were able to return to work and spend more time with their family.
I was so touched by their letter. I had never expected to hear from the recipient of my kidney, and I was so happy to know that my donation had made such a difference in their life.
I have since met the recipient of my kidney, and we have become friends. I am so grateful for the opportunity to have helped them, and I am so proud of the gift that I have given.
